Internet and DVD Training in responsible gaming

Change of Attitude
Assissa recently conducted a training programme in Sweden in which 2600 retailers and employees participated during a one-year period. The training film takes place in a fictional gaming retail outlet, and is designed to illustrate scenarios and events that are based on the information and attitudes that we would like to communicate.

The main aim of the training is to create a change in attitude, rather than to point out what is right and wrong. Changes in attitude can only be achieved through understanding and a feeling of relevance of those using it. Our method is to illustrate the issues and consequences related to gaming for staff members and retailers, as well as gamblers and their families, from several different perspectives. We also would like to illustrate how all of the above mentioned individuals affect each other. Other important elements in the training explain how chance works, and how young people are affected by gaming.

Accessibility
To be able to reach all staff members and retailers it requires the adaptation of the training material to different forms of media. The most cost effective training method combines video films and Internet. The disadvantage of this solution is that it requires the ownership of, or access to computer equipment as well as the basic knowledge of how to use it. On the other hand, DVDs and CD-ROMs have high distribution costs, but require less from the user.

A solution to optimizing the relationship between cost, user friendliness, accessibility, and administrative support is using different combinations of materials and distribution methods.
